Charlotte Riley joins Ron Howard’s “In The Heart Of The Sea” opposite Chris Hemsworth | Up&Comers
British actress Charlotte Riley becomes the first female cast member of Ron Howard’s 19th Century whaling disaster thriller “In the Heart of the Sea,” according to Deadline.
Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Tom Holland, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Frank Dillane, Ben Whishaw and newcomer Sam Keeley had been cast previously.
The lack of female roles in this one isn’t surprising since it’s about the all-male crew aboard whaling ship the Essex, which began a journey from Nantucket bound for the South Pacific in 1819 and was rammed and sunk by a giant sperm whale.
The initial crew of 20, led by Hemsworth’s character, dwindled as they struggled to survive aboard three lifeboats, facing hunger, disease and inclement weather. Riley will play Hemsworth’s pregnant wife.
Filming began in London last month.
Charlotte pays her past a surprise visit | by Laura Woodcock | Evening Gazette Nov 2010
A star of stage and screen made a return to her former Teesside school to surprise her former teachers. Charlotte Riley, who has starred in the ITV production of Wuthering Heights and a number of other television dramas, delighted her former teachers when she paid a surprise visit to her old school, Teesside High School in Eaglescliffe.
Charlotte left the school in 2000 and went on to Durham University where she graduated with a degree in English and Linguistics. She then attended a two-year acting course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and was offered the role in the ITV production of Wuthering Heights soon after leaving. She has since appeared in television dramas including The Take and DCI Banks, plays and a film adaptation of Noel Coward’s Easy Virtue.
Charlotte said: “It almost gives me heart palpitations walking in here. It reminds me of going to do my GCSEs and A Levels. I remember doing my first ever play here as well. I must have only been nine or 10 and we did Oliver.
I am amazed at how much I remember about being here. I really liked my time at the school - they really were the best days of my life! I was in a lovely year group. We are still in touch and see each other all the time.”
Teesside High School headmaster Thomas Packer added: “We are so proud of all that Charlotte has achieved since her very successful time at Teesside High School. We were delighted that she was able to visit the school and that she clearly had such an enjoyable time when she was a pupil here. We are now looking forward to Charlotte returning to celebrate our current pupil’s achievements and deliver an inspirational speech in December.”
I will love you 'til the end of time. I would wait a million years.
Promise you'll remember that you're mine.

All You Need Is Kill renamed as Edge Of Tomorrow —
Tom Cruise’s forthcoming sci-fi vehicle All You Need Is Kill - with cast Emily Blunt and Charlotte Riley - has undergone a title change, with the film now to be referred to as Edge Of Tomorrow.
The new title fits in quite nicely with the film’s time-loop plot, as Tom Cruise’s military man finds himself reliving his last day over and over again during an interplanetary war.
Meanwhile the film has released first official posters with Cruise and Blunt just in time for Comic Con. Let’s hope there’s going to be one with Charlotte as well, it would be about time to get a first look of her in character!
crownofcastiel asked: I love your blog so much, Charlotte is such a talented actress she should be more famous than she already is! And she's so humble!
Thanks for the kudos, luv! It’s highly appreciated!
And of course I agree on your opinion of Charlotte ‘Monkey’, she’s (obviously) one of my favourite fabulous people in the whole wide world!
Another lovely phtoto of Katie Birch, Tom Hardy, Kayleigh Duff and Charlotte Riley on Kayleigh’s “bucket list” lunch
YOUNG mum Kayleigh Duff had a dream date with film star Tom Hardy during a break from her cancer treatment
The 23-year-old spent yesterday in London with the film star as part of a surprise organised by her friend Katie Birch. Meeting him was one of the items on a wish list she drew up after being diagnosed with the same rare and aggressive form of cancer.
She appeared on ITV’s This Morning and Tom Hardy’s fiancee’s sister saw the item and contacted the show. Kayleigh said: “I nearly died when I saw him. I was shaking - I just thought we were having a day out in London.
“Tom’s fiancee Charlotte and Katie arranged it all without me knowing and he was so lovely and down to earth. We had lunch and tea and scones and he bought me a diamond necklace.”
The day out came during a break from Kayleigh’s treatment for the same rare and aggressive cancer that killed her father when she was just eight. Her first course of chemotherapy made no difference to the tumours in her liver and she is due to start a different combination of chemo drugs in a few weeks. But first she is jetting off to Florida for the holiday of a lifetime with son Kai - another item from her wish list, designed to make memories for Kai, two, and the rest of her family.
